TSG: The Experts
The Technical Study Group

Throughout the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™, FIFA.com will be giving users an exclusive insight into the best of each day’s action via its innovative new section “TSG: The Experts”.

Every day the members of FIFA’s Technical Study Group (TSG) will be offering their unique and exclusive views in informative columns, picking out and commenting on the highlights of the day’s games. So if you are looking for a different angle, in-depth explanations and the definitive word on events at the biggest footballing show on Earth, then “TSG: The Experts” is the place for you.

The TSG has been present at every FIFA competition for the last 40 years, identifying trends and providing informed analysis on all the technical and tactical advances the game has witnessed in that time. South Africa 2010 will be no exception, although this new section represents an exciting departure for our resident analysts, who will be sharing their exclusive insight with users every day throughout the competition.

Jean-Paul Brigger, the head of FIFA’s Technical Department, explained the thinking behind the initiative: “Our main aim is to continue the development of the game. Developed in conjunction with FIFA.com, this project also gives us a wonderful opportunity to share our experience and insight with fans from all over the world.”

“Our team in South Africa will be made up of highly regarded experts from all four corners of the globe. And it’s thanks to the unique nature of the FIFA World Cup that we’re able to bring all this knowledge and experience together,” added Brigger, a former Swiss international (33 caps, 3 goals), who had a distinguished career in his homeland, winning the Swiss league championship with FC Sion and five Swiss Cups and also being named the country's player of the year in 1992 and the coach of the year in 1995.

The TSG is made up of coaches past and present who have acquired a wealth of experience in the game at the very highest level. Aside from observing matches and team training sessions, its members meet with national coaches to discuss specific aspects of player preparation and training, not to mention the expectations that coaches have in each tournament. As a result of the information they gather and the debate that follows this process, the TSG then offers an official appraisal of the tactical and technical developments witnessed at each tournament.
