The Brazilian Futsal Confederation (CBFS) have brought to an end their successful collaboration with Paulo Cesar de Oliveira, the coach who guided the Seleção to the FIFA Futsal World Cup title last year on home soil. The CBFS opted not to renew De Oliveira's contract, citing "work differences and management issues" in their announcement on Monday.

The CBFS added that the Technical Committee were assessing various candidates with a view to succeeding the outgoing coach and that they hoped to have someone in place by early July, when Brazil travel to Lisbon, Portugal, to defend the Lusofonia Games title won in Macau in 2006.

'PC' de Oliveira took up the national team reins in June 2005, a year after Chinese Taipei 2004, where Brazil lost their second consecutive FIFA Futsal World Cup final to Spain. Under De Oliveira's stewardship, the Canarinhos played 155 games, winning an incredible 149, drawing five and losing just one.

Golden era
The coach enjoyed his finest hour on 19 October last at Rio's legendary Estadio Maracana, where his side beat Spain on penalties in the final of the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup.

Born in Araraquara, Sao Paulo, on 6 September 1960, De Oliveira was a respected pivot during a playing career that took in spells at Brazilian clubs Gercan, Corinthians, Gremio, Enxuta, SER Itaqui and ASMO Sao Miguel D'Oeste. Prior to his work with the national team, he coached Ser Itaqui (1994), Russo Preto (1995), Inter/Ulbra/ (1996-99), GM (2000) and Ulbra (2001-04), before moving to Spain in 2004 to take charge of Playas de Castellon.
